Why get a membership?

An active membership in the Alberta Pharmacy Students’ Association is voluntary but highly encouraged for pharmacy students at the University of Alberta. $250 covers your membership over all 4 years of the program, but it’s a big commitment to pay all at once!

Many members agree that the cost of an APSA membership pays itself off quickly, and each pharmacy class consistently has over 93% (or even 100%) membership in our association.

Note: Even if you get your membership a year later, the cost will still be $250.

Here are some reasons why you should get an APSA membership:

1. APSA Member Pricing: There is special reduced pricing to our events including: RxFactor (our talent show in November), Blue and Gold (a gala in March), and some other events
2. APSA Member Discount Card: Special discounts put together by VP Student Services at various businesses around Edmonton! These include: ACE Coffee Roasters, SEPP’s Pizza, Yelo’d, The Canadian Brewhouse, Hexagon Board Game Cafe, and Aloha Hawaiian Poke & Grill, and many more!
3. Lunch and Learns: Get free lunch and attend educational sessions hosted by various sponsors
4. Intramurals: Participate on teams with classmates against other students on campus including Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Basketball and more
5. Lockers: Rent lockers through VP Student Services in the hallway on the first floor of MSB by skills lab
6. APSA Awards: Apply for awards (usually between December and February) that will be presented at Blue and Gold
7. Get Involved with APSA: Sign up to be APSA committees, run for positions on council and create APSA Affiliated Groups (Note: you can still participate in APSA Affiliated groups)
8. Included in your APSA Membership is CAPSI and IPSF memberships

Even if you choose not to get a membership there are still things you can do:

1. Mentorship: all first years are enrolled in the mentorship program where you can create bonds with classmates and your upper year mentor who can help you navigate the program!
2. Pharmacy Cup: all pharmacy students are assigned a team each year and can attend events to get points for their team for prizes (team/individual)!
3. Space and Wellness Events: VP Student Services arranges various food events (pie day, hot chocolate day, etc) and wellness events (puppy therapy, build your own wellness kit, etc) that is open for all pharmacy students to take a break!
4. Faculty Events and Committees: Faculty hosts pumpkin carving contests, gingerbread contest and TGIF faculty-student mixers for students.
