GFC Councilor: Hubert Piatkowski
Hi there everyone! My name is Hubert Piatkowski and I am a second-year pharmacy student and the current GFC.
In my role as GFC, I want to highlight some of the issues the University of Alberta has been facing. In the past year, University funding has been cut by almost a third. This has made the University of Alberta a more expensive place to attend. While the topics of University governance may seem at times convoluted, I hope to bridge the gap between what the Board of Governors decides (aka the people who decide the Universities budget) and how macro issues like public funding can affect us as pharmacy students! In my role, I plan to:
1) Translate long GFC documents into easy-to-understand summaries.
2) Work together with the faculty to bring forward issues that affect Pharmacy and the Pharmaceutical Sciences.
3) Provide students with the opportunities to raise questions and concerns about topics related to University governance, and when required, provide education on why current issues may be occurring.
In my spare time, I enjoy learning languages, swimming, playing tennis, and reading a good book. Feel free to reach out to my email (piatkows@ualberta.ca) if any of these topics interest you and I would be more than happy to chat 😀
