[title size=’3′]ATTENTION NEW STUDENTS[/title]
Welcome to the Pharmily! Although we have all come from a very diverse background, we are now all together in the Pharmacy Program at the University of Alberta. The program here is quite unlike anything many of us had ever experienced. You can expect such things as Toastmasters, final exams in October, numerous group projects, communication labs, and an almost overwhelming number of opportunities to get involved with APSA (Alberta Pharmacy Students’ Association) and the profession of Pharmacy. Altogether this can be overwhelming to anyone. To ensure each and every one of you succeeds, your student association has created the Student Mentorship Program!

As part of your acceptance into the program, you will be assigned to a professor who will be your academic advisor. This advisor will act as a resource for you if you are ever stuck with some of your academic work load. We recommend that you take the time to introduce yourself and spend a bit of time getting to know them. Should you need their help in the future, this will be time well spent.

Your Student Mentor will also be a huge resource to you, both academically and in the day-to-day routine of being a pharmacy student. They will be available to answer such questions as: “Which intramural sport should I play?”, “Is it really possible to pass Pharmaceutics?” or “Who do I talk to if I get lost?”. Regardless of your questions, you can be sure that someone has already asked it and would be happy to share the answer with you.

The Student Mentorship Network will not pair you with one individual student, but will put you in touch with numerous students that you can connect with and chat about ANYTHING. This program is still being finalized so we will be providing you with much more information on the Network during your orientation this September.

[title size=’3′]ATTENTION VETERAN STUDENTS[/title]

We ALL took Toastmaster’s and learned to speak in front of our peers, we survived our final exams in October, we collaborated on numerous group projects, and we took advantage of many APSA opportunities and events. Now we have the opportunity to pass our knowledge onto our newly accepted members of the Pharmily.

If you want to prevent the new students from making the same mistakes you did (such as what not to wear to your first lab or when to find the shortest line to Tim Hortons), then WE WANT YOU!

We want students from all years to participate, but remember this is voluntary. If you were passionate about a specific course, if you really enjoyed certain elements of a lab, or if you feel you have knowledge to share about the day to day life of a pharmacy student then please contact APSA’s VP Academic Bryan Hodgson (bthodgso@ualberta.ca) and let him know what you are interested in contributing.

Please monitor this web page as updates will be coming to streamline the signup and contact capabilities.
