CAPSI Competitions

Every year your local representatives host the CAPSI Competitions which take place in October. This is an excellent opportunity for students to apply the skills and knowledge they have acquired in the classroom in a fun and challenging way. There are four competitions that take place: Compounding, Patient Interview, Over-the-Counter and the Student Literacy Challenge (SLC).
The winner of each of these competitions is guaranteed a spot at Professional Development Week 2016, and their registration to the conference is paid for, in addition to a travel subsidy! They will also be given the opportunity to represent U of A at PDW during the National CAPSI Competitions!

2014 CAPSI Competitions

We have received all of the cases for this year’s CAPSI competitions. Below you will find information on what each competition consists of, the rules and how to sign-up for the competitions. I encourage each and every one of you to participate in the competitions this year even if you don’t want to attend PDW. These competitions are a great way of honing your pharmacy skills whether in compounding or the patient care process.

Due to the level of therapeutic knowledge potentially required in the patient interview and over the counter competition, they will be restricted to second, third, and fourth year students.
First and second year students can sign up for either the OTC or PIC competitions to become an observer. We will place you in a 15 minute time slot with a consulting student so you can observe the process of these competitions and get ready to participate in future years or even learn some therapeutic skills from higher years!

Sign-up for the Compounding Competition is already live! The OTC and PIC Competitions will go live on Monday October 13th at 12:00 PM. Please sign up early to ensure you get a spot in the competition of your choice! SLC essays can be submitted at any time until the October 15th 11:59 PM deadline.
